Postdoctoral Professional Development Programing Opportunities

Professionalism competency training through participating in professional development workshops offered by Texas State’s Office of Faculty Development the  Office of Research and Sponsored Programs, and the Graduate College.

Examples of current workshops include:

  • Teaching (ESCALA: Increasing Latinx Student Success; Teaching First-Generation Students)
  • Grantsmanship (Navigating the External Funding Landscape; Effective Strategies for Finding Funding)
  • Civility (The Importance of Talking to Your Students About Race and Ethnicity)
  • Applying for academic positions (Academic Job Search: Available Positions and Applications; Academic Job Search: Interviews and Negotiations; Know your WORTH: Salary Negotiation Techniques for Women).
  • Development of written and oral communication skills through participating in the Write Watchers program offered by the Office of Faculty Development and by presenting a research paper or poster at an annual conference hosted by Texas State University.
  • Opportunity to gain broad based discipline-specific conceptual knowledge by attending weekly seminar series offered by departments in the College of Science and Engineering.
  • Training in responsible conduct of research through completing the nationally recognized training program offered by CITI (Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative).
  • Laboratory safety training delivered by the university’s office of Environmental Health, Safety and Risk Management.
  • Mentoring STEM student workshop
  • Opportunities to  broaden participation via mentorship.
